Everyone deserves to go to summer camp. That’s where Camp Courage comes in.

The week of June 12, Border States employee-owners were among the approximately 200 volunteers who visited the camp in Maple Lake, MN, 15 miles south of Clearwater, MN. They partnered with the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) to help kids with muscular dystrophy experience swimming, fishing, boating, horseback-riding, zip-lining and other outdoor activities.

In May, Border States volunteers had raised $5,000 through the MDA Muscle Walk in Moorhead, MN. The employee-owners who later volunteered at Camp Courage were Market Specialist Barb Nyberg, Purchasing Specialist Katelyn Mack and Recruiting Specialist Kelli Bohn.

The funds and efforts contributed to MDA go toward lifesaving research, healing support groups and, of course, Camp Courage, which Border States supports annually.

“The kids are able to go because of the donations that came in, and each camper has their own volunteer counselor who is with them the entire week,” Bohn says. “It’s an amazing experience.”
