FARGO, N.D. (February 27, 2025) — Border States is proud to announce plans for the construction of its first regional distribution center in Fargo.

Slated to open in fall 2026, the Upper Midwest distribution center will serve 28 Border States locations across the region, including in North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, Iowa, Wyoming, Wisconsin, Montana and Nebraska. At more than 300,000 square feet, the distribution center will be the company’s largest facility and marks a significant evolution in Border States’ strategic direction and ability to scale up operations around the country, streamline its supply chain and offer customers greater access to inventory.

“The opening of our new Upper Midwest distribution center marks a significant milestone at Border States,” said Tony Serati, VP Supply Chain Strategy and Optimization. “This facility will help us better serve our customers, allow our employee-owners to deliver their highest level of performance and become world-class partners with our strategic suppliers. This is our first step in building a more resilient and scalable supply chain for Border States that supports our long-term growth strategies.”

The first of several planned distribution centers for the company, this facility will be equipped with state-of-the-art technology and automation to streamline operations while empowering the company’s employee-owners to elevate the customer experience.

“We’re taking a large step forward in how we deploy technology,” said James Sipe, Executive VP Supply Chain. “We see it as complementary to our long-term goals and to how our employee-owners are our difference-makers. With a balanced approach around people and technology, we’ll continue to make our team more effective at solving the complex problems our customers face every day.”

Work on the distribution center began in fall 2024 with ground preparation, and an official groundbreaking ceremony is planned for spring 2025. Construction is expected to conclude in fall 2026.

The opening of the distribution center will not impact how Fargo area customers engage with Border States; they will continue to go to the Fargo branch for all their needs. Border States also looks forward to expanding its Fargo workforce with more than 60 new jobs created at the distribution center.
